Grape Varieties Touriga Nacional, TInta Roriz, and Others

To give it it's full title, Quinta da Costa das Aguaneiras, this single estate wine was recognised for it's potential as an homage to the way the red wines were made back in the 90's, when the new wave of Douro table wines was born. The property is lower in altutude, almost right on the river, and is south facing. The old vineyards here are field blends of the traditional varieties found in a port blend, with a predominance of Touriga Nacional.

With decades of experience, winemaker Paulo Ruão regonised that harvesting just little earlier than for port meant great ripeness and concentration could be achieved while  retaining enough acidity to make a robust red with freshness and, dare we say, elegance! Aromatically, very akin to an unfortified Late Bottle Vintage.
