Grape Varieties Castelão

A true, old-vine castelão from a 50 year old plot with a small percentage of other, mostly unknown red and white varieties. Traditionally and very naturally made, with de-stemming, foot-treading, and fermentation in lagar. There's no oak here, just slow ageing in vat and bottle.

The first noticable thing is the fruit component - It's beautifully ripe, with a sweet touch to some dark berry and damson, but also a bright, crunchy, sour cherry note too. Then comes the complexity and depth - there's a wonderful rusticity and earthiness of minerality, spice and savoury notes, with some light florals. The palate has all the juicy fruit you want, bags of acidity, and with a great tannic structure that will hold the wine for years to come.
